Pat Frayne
Tooreen Seniors scraped past Castlebar in the Senior Championship on Thursday evening. In a close fought game Pat Fraynes first minute goal was the crucial difference at the end where Tooreen prevailed on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-11.
It was the first match since the tragic passing of Tooreen Legend Adrian Freeman for les Bleues and so naturally the game was lent an emotional pretext. Tooreen hurled well in the first half but by and large failed to make an impact on the scoreboard apart from Fraynes major.
The second period saw the Mitchells up the ante and after a narrow wide from Gary Nolan in front of their goals, a looping ball caught Adrian Hession offgaurd and Castlebar were back in the game. It was nip and tuck all the way to the finish and a draw looked the more likely result until a searing run by Shane Muldoon pushed Tooreen back ahead. Tooreen were hanging on but two frees from Kenny Feeney steadied the ship.
Frantic defending by Kenneth Robinson & Micheal Healy managed to repel the home teams efforts and a final free by Castlebar brought a close encounter to a finish. Tooreen were relieved to have come away with both points following a very sad time in the clubs history.
Team: Adrian Hession, Sean Ganley, Bud Robinson, Micheal Healy, Joey Ganley, Micheal Morley, Greg Henry, Colm Mitchell, Kenny Feeney, Brian Delaney, Pat Frayne, Shane Muldoon, Martin Devaney, Paul Hunt, Gary Nolan.
