Tooreen Host Connacht Puck Fada

Tooreen Hurling Club were honoured to host the Connacht Hurling Puc Fada. Its the first time the event was held in Tooreen and a fine evenings entertainment was aided by bright sunshine. The Senior mens title went to James Skehill of Galway, with Gerry Fallon (Roscommon) finishing second, Donal OBrien (Mayo) coming third and Keith Raymond (Sligo) finishing fourth.

In all, nine competitors took part in the Senior competition with Skehills first puck of 129 metres claiming him the Niall McInerney Memorial Cup. Skehills monster drive finished four metres ahead of current All-Ireland Champion Gerry Fallon (Roscommon), with Mayos Donal OBrien a further half a metre back. The top four players now go forward to the All-Ireland Poc Fada Competition in the Cooley Mountains in Louth in August. In the Under-16 competition held on the evening also, Galways Owen Treacy took the honours on the night with a puck of 109 metres.
